Why Is There Only A Little Cold Air Coming Into My Home?

When you turn on your air conditioning system you expect it to produce enough cool air to keep your home comfortable. However, a very common air conditioning repair is an AC system that can’t produce enough cold air. Call Ideal Services Heating and Cooling today if your air conditioner is struggling to produce enough cooling. Here are a few possible causes of this very common issue.

Cary, NC Air Conditioning Repair: Not Enough Cooling

There are many things that can go wrong with your air conditioning system and insufficient cooling is a very common Cary, NC air conditioning repair. Check out our quick explanation of what might be causing this.

  • Air filter – By far, the most common cause of air conditioning problems is a clogged air filter. Your AC’s air filter is there not to improve the air quality in your home but to protect the mechanical parts of your AC equipment from dust and debris. If it gets clogged it will restrict the flow of air through the system and likely lead to not enough cool air getting into your home.
  • Low refrigerant – Your air conditioner uses a compressed refrigerant to remove heat from your home and carry it outside to get exhausted into the outdoor air. If your system doesn’t have enough refrigerant in the system then it won’t be able to remove enough heat from your home. This will lead to there being too much heat in your home and you not getting enough cool air.
  • Compressor issues –We just mentioned that your AC uses a compressed refrigerant to remove heat form your home. In order to compress that refrigerant your air conditioner uses (what else?) a compressor. If your compressor starts to have problems then it won’t be able to keep the refrigerant under enough pressure so that it can absorb heat out of your home’s air. This will lead to insufficient cooling from your AC system.
  • Fan motor – If you have a traditional forced-air central AC system then you have a fan inside your home that pushes the cooled air through the ductwork and into your home. Obviously, if that fan motor stops working properly it won’t be able to push enough cool air through your home.
